According to officials, gusty winds ranging between 50–60 km/h may also accompany the storm systems over the weekend.

Severe Weather Expected to Continue Until May 5

The latest alert, applicable for May 3 and May 4, has been issued due to the influence of an active Western Disturbance and two well-defined trough systems spanning north to south and east to west across the country. These meteorological conditions are expected to bring unstable weather to Chhattisgarh through early next week.

According to meteorologist H.P. Chandra, the current weather activity is being driven by:

• A cyclonic circulation over South Punjab, North Rajasthan, and Western Haryana at upper tropospheric levels

• A north-south oriented trough stretching from Punjab to North Kerala, affecting Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Marathwada

• An east-west trough extending from Northeast Rajasthan through North Chhattisgarh to Bangladesh, influencing weather at 1.5 km altitude

These systems are collectively contributing to localized rainfall, lightning, squalls, and hailstorms in parts of the state.

• Light to moderate rainfall is likely at several locations today

• Isolated thunderstorms, hail, and lightning are expected in eastern and northern districts

• Dust storms or strong winds may develop in open regions

• No major change in maximum temperature is expected despite the cloud cover

This weather pattern is expected to remain unchanged through May 4, with similar conditions continuing on May 5, according to IMD forecasts.
