Sourav Ganguly, the former captain of India and current president of the BCCI, expressed his belief that Virat Kohli would have performed well had he participated in the ongoing series against England. Kohli recently announced his retirement from Test cricket just before this crucial tour. Ganguly shared his thoughts after Kohli's retirement, stating that he was taken aback, as he had expected the star player to continue playing, given his fitness and age. He emphasized that Kohli would have made significant contributions had he been part of the England tour.
Ganguly's Perspective
Ganguly remarked, "It's quite irrelevant to discuss my terms versus someone else's. As a player, one understands their current standing. Look at Virat; many question his decision. While he may not have had the best five years in Test cricket, great players like him often find their form again. I assure you, had he been on this England tour, he would have scored runs. However, he felt it was time to step away," he stated.
Virat Kohli's Impressive Test Record
Virat Kohli is regarded as one of the most esteemed figures in modern Test cricket, showcasing his prowess through remarkable performances. Over 123 Test innings, he has amassed 9,230 runs, achieving an average of 46.85 and a strike rate of 55.57. His outstanding score of 254 not out highlights his ability to convert early success into substantial totals. With 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries, Kohli stands tall in India's batting lineup, demonstrating resilience and skill against formidable English seam bowlers.
