Davanagere: A disturbing incident of inhuman assault has come to light late from Astapanahalli village in Channagiri taluk of Davanagere district, where a young boy from the Hakki-Pikki community was tied half-naked to an areca nut tree and brutally tortured using red ants and insects. Police have arrested three persons in connection with the incident.
The boy, whose family earns a living by selling herbal medicines, was accused of theft and misbehaving in the village. Based on this, a group tied him to an areca nut tree and tortured him in a barbaric manner. A video of the assault has now gone viral.
In the video, the attackers are seen releasing red ants and other insects on the boy’s private parts while he cries out in pain. Instead of helping, the group was seen laughing and mocking him. The video also shows a mob of 10 to 15 young men assaulting the boy using sticks, wooden logs, and drip pipes in a highly perverse act of cruelty.
The incident reportedly occurred a few days ago but came to public attention only recently. A case has been registered at the Channagiri Police Station. So far, three accused have been taken into custody, and efforts are on to trace and arrest the others involved, police said.
