In a horrifying incident on a Disney Cruise ship sailing back to Florida, a child fell into the sea, causing panic among passengers. However, her father immediately jumped in after her to rescue her, as reported by USA Today.
The incident happened on June 29 while the Disney Dream was sailing back to Fort Lauderdale after a four-night Bahamian cruise that included a stop at Disney’s private island, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.
The emergency code “Mr MOB.” (man overboard) was broadcast over the ship’s intercom, signaling an urgent response, according to The Street.
A Disney Cruise Line spokesperson told USA Today: “The crew aboard the Disney Dream swiftly rescued two guests from the water.”
"We commend our crew members for their exceptional skills and prompt actions, which ensured the safe return of both guests to the ship within minutes. We are committed to the safety and well-being of our guests, and this incident highlights the effectiveness of our safety protocols," the statement added.
Reports from passengers described the quick response of crew members, who threw life jackets and deployed a rescue boat within minutes
One passenger, Kevin Furuta, recalling the incident, said: “A girl fell overboard from the 4th deck & her dad went in after her ... Thankfully the DCL rescue team was on it immediately and both were saved!”
Several reports claimed that the ship may have been docked during the incident. However, as reported by USA today, passengers said the rescue took place while the ship was cruising between The Bahamas and Florida, with the child reportedly falling from Deck 4.
Despite the ship having a proper safety barrier, it remains unclear how the child fell overboard.
