Watch: PM Modi fulfils 14-year vow of barefoot admirer, makes him wear shoes

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met a long-time admirer who had given up wearing footwear 14 years ago, vowing not to wear any until Modi became Prime Minister, and he got the chance to meet him.

Rampal Kashyap 's vow was fulfilled at a Haryana rally on Monday as the PM himself made him wear shoes.

Acknowledging Kashyap's affection and admiration, PM Modi urged his well-wishers to "focus on something that is linked to social work and nation building".

"At today's public meeting in Yamunanagar , I met Shri Rampal Kashyap Ji from Kaithal . He had taken a vow 14 years ago- that he will only wear footwear after I became PM and he got to meet me," PM Modi wrote on X.

He further wrote: "I am humbled by people like Rampal Ji and also accept their affection but I want to request everyone who takes up such vows - I cherish your love...please focus on something that is linked to social work and nation building!"


Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday laid the foundation stone for a project of increasing the capacity of a thermal powerplant in Yamunanagar, Haryana. PM Modi was facilitated by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, highlighting how the event has happened on the "auspicious day" of Ambedkar Jayanti .

PM Modi is on a visit to Haryana to lay the foundation stone for several developmental projects. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, among other leaders, was also present.

Earlier, PM flagged off the first commercial flight between Hisar and Ayodhya and laid the foundation stone for a new terminal at Hisar airport. In Yamunanagar, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of increasing the capacity of a Deenbandhu Chotu Ram power plant to 800 MW.
