AGARTALA: Security forces have arrested four Bangladeshi nationals from Agartala railway station for "illegally" entering India, officials said on Sunday. Five others, hailing from Tripura, have also been apprehended for facilitating the entry of the Bangladeshi nationals, they said.
"The four Bangladeshi nationals were detained when they were about to board a Kolkata-bound train on Saturday," a police officer said.
All of them were later arrested for "failing to produce any valid document to travel to India", he said.
"They were sent to three-day police remand for interrogation after being produced before a local court here," the officer said.
Meanwhile, a joint team of the BSF and railway police carried out raids in different locations of Sonamura in Sepahijala district on Saturday and arrested five persons for their alleged involvement in the infiltration, he said.
"The suspected human traffickers - hailing from different locations of Tripura's Sepahijala district - were arrested for helping the Bangladeshi nationals to cross over the international border and provide logistic support," the officer said.
Further investigation is underway.
