NEW DELHI: The Bhartiya Janata Party ( BJP ) spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari attacked the Congress party, specifically Priyanka Gandhi , for choosing to contest from Wayanad . He accused the Gandhi family of selecting areas with a significant Muslim population to secure votes.
"The Gandhi family chooses such areas to contest elections where the Muslim vote is 30% or more and the Gandhi family feels safe there," Bhandari said on Thursday.
Bhandari alleged that Priyanka Gandhi's decision to contest from Wayanad was influenced by her brother Rahul Gandhi 's previous success in the region, attributing it to a high percentage of Muslim votes.
"Priyanka Gandhi ran away to Wayanad because she knows that her brother Rahul Gandhi contested from there and he got 90% of the Muslim vote and Priyanka Gandhi is trying to win on this vote," he said.
Bhandari further described the grand old party as the " modern Muslim League ," accusing them of attempting to divide Hindu society while avoiding discussions about Muslim castes. He said, "That is why they want to divide the Hindu society and do not talk about the castes of the Muslim society."
He also pointed out Congress's poor performance in Uttar Pradesh, saying, "I want to tell Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, you said mein ladki hu mein lad sakti hu (I am a woman I can fight), but 90% of deposits were lost there because their vote bank did not come to their rescue there."
On Wednesday, Priyanka Gandhi filed her nomination for the Wayanad Lok Sabha bypoll in Kerala, marking her electoral debut. She expressed her gratitude towards the people of Wayanad in a post on X, saying, "The love you've shown to Rahul Ji, and now to me, is something I carry with me every step of the way. Wayanad's strength lies in its people-their kindness, resilience, and belief in a better future."
Assuring residents she would address their concerns, she added, "I will listen to your voices, raise the issues that matter to you, and work tirelessly for the progress of Wayanad."

Filing my nomination for the Wayanad by-election today was a moment filled with emotion. The love you’ve shown to Rahul Ji, and now to me, is something I carry with me every step of the way.
