GUWAHATI: A prominent private school was set ablaze in Manipur's Jiribam district Friday amid escalating tensions in certain regions of the strife-scarred state in recent days, reports Kangkan Kalita.
The attack on Blooming Flower School in Jiribam town - an area predominantly inhabited by tribal groups - came three days after NDA legislators representing Meitei, Kuki and Naga groups met for "conciliatory" talks in Delhi on home ministry invitation.
Authorities attributed the torching to "disputes" within the school management. Hmar Inpui, the apex body of the Hmar tribe, blamed the arson on Meitei militant outfits .
"We are not considering the incident from a communal perspective. It was likely due to a personal or management-related dispute," said an officer, adding that a probe was underway.
