Tesla CEO Elon Musk has shared the auto-maker’s vision to turn every car into a multi-purpose revenue generator for both the company and its owners. In a recent post on social media platform X (earlier Twitter), the tech billionaire has suggested a way how Tesla car owners may soon be able to “share” their autonomous-capable vehicles via a dedicated app. This will not only help the company to easily add cars to a ride-hailing fleet that operates without drivers but will also return a share of the fare revenue to the owner. This builds on Tesla’s plan to transform its cars from simple vehicles into self-driving “robotaxis.’ It also fulfills Musk’s goal to make personal Teslas become both transportation and on-demand service platforms. This comes as the company explores subscription models, software upgrades and autonomous mobility services to offset recent sales pressures.
Musk commented on a post which included a video showing how Tesla’s full self-driving (FSD) Supervised ride-hailing service will work (originally shared by Tesla) and said: “Tesla owners will have the ability to turn their cars into robotaxis. Technically, your car will earn money for you. It's like Uber , but the car drives itself.”

Tesla begins test run for FSD Supervised ride hailing service
This comes after Tesla launched the FSD Supervised AI-powered ride-hailing service in Austin, Texas, and the San Francisco Bay Area “for an early set of employees.” The company took to X to make this announcement.
Sharing the original video about FSD Supervised, Tesla wrote: “FSD Supervised ride-hailing service is live for an early set of employees in Austin & San Francisco Bay Area. We've completed over 1.5k trips & 15k miles of driving. This service helps us develop & validate FSD networks, the mobile app, vehicle allocation, mission control & remote assistance operations.”
According to a report by Reutres, the company is also planning to launch the service in Austin by June.
