Caitlin Clark reacted to WNBA upgrading foul to flagrant 1

Caitlin Clark has broken her silence on WNBA upgrading her foul in the third quarter to a flagrant 1. Clark got into a minor physical altercation with her arch-rival, Angel Reese, in the third quarter of the game. It was quite in sync with the people’s expectations, who are seeing the 29th season as another premise for fireworks between the two leading players.

However, Clark shut down the rumors of her having beef with Reese, saying:

“Let's not make it something that it's not,” Clark responded.

She further added, “It was just a good play on the basketball. I'm not sure what the ref saw to upgrade it, and that's up to their discretion. It's a take foul to put them at the free throw line. I've watched a lot of basketball in my life, that's exactly what it was. I wasn't trying to do anything malicious. That's not the type of player I am."

Clark further commented on WNBA upgrading her take foul to flagrant 1, saying:

“I went for the ball, clear as day in the replay.

You watch it, you know it shouldn't have been upgraded. Again that's up to the refs' discretion, but I appreciate A.B. having my back."

WNBA clarified why Caitlin Clark’s foul was upgraded to Flagrant 1

The contest between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky was precisely as expected. It was full of moments with tempers flaring from both sides. Caitlin Clark faced a third foul in the third quarter due to her slapping Angel Reese on the arm, followed by her fall to the ground. WNBA upgraded Clark’s foul to Flagrant 1. Clearing the air around the same, WNBA’s crew chief Roy Gulbeyan said:

“Okay, the foul on Clark met the criteria for Flagrant Foul 1, for wind up, impact, and follow through for the extension of the left hand to Reese's back, which is deemed not a legitimate basketball play, and therefore deemed necessary contact.

After the foul, there is a physical taunt technical on Boston and a verbal technical on Reese, which offset."

Clark and Reese’s face-off was mediated by Aliyah Boston , who stepped in on time to prevent the matter from escalating. Remembering her intervention, Clark appreciated Boston’s move to provide her support in a heated moment.
