NEW DELHI: Kolkata Knight Riders ’ mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy posted a cryptic Instagram story tagging former KKR coach Abhishek Nayar , shortly after the Indian cricket team 's assistant coach was let go by the Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI ).
In the Instagram story, Varun posted an image of himself in KKR colours alongside Nayar.
Nayar built his reputation as a sharp, player-first mentor during his time with the three-time IPL champions. He is credited with playing a pivotal role in shaping talents like Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, and Chakravarthy.
Fans quickly picked up on a possible return for Nayar, linking it to the BCCI’s recent decision to part ways with assistant coach Nayar, fielding coach T Dilip, and strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai following India’s Test series defeats to New Zealand and Australia.
It’s worth noting that Nayar was hand-picked by India head coach Gautam Gambhir , following his stellar stint with KKR, who won the IPL 2024 title under his mentorship.
Still, after less than a year with the national setup, his contract, valid till May 31, has been cut short.
As of now, there's been no confirmation on the franchise's interest in a reunion.
