The Sundarban Tramjatra Festival is a special four-day event, taking place from March 28 to 31, celebrating the rich flora and fauna of the Sundarban. This festival highlights the unique connection between Kolkata’s iconic trams and the vital Sundarbans mangrove ecosystem, while also raising awareness about the impact of climate change on both regions, recognised as vulnerable hotspots. Supported by the Australian Government under the Maitri Cultural Grant and RMIT University, the festival transforms trams into stunning moving artworks with each tram adorned with colorful paintings showcasing the region’s iconic wildlife, dense mangroves, serene waterways, and cultural heritage. The designs are inspired by the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger, vibrant birds, and lush greenery. Beyond art, the festival features traditional music, folk dances, and eco-friendly activities, offering a holistic cultural experience. The event not only showcases biodiversity but also promotes conservation and sustainability.
