THANE: Banners praising the efforts of deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde and his son, MP Shrikant Shinde, appeared in various parts of Dombivli following the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir.
The banners highlighted their role in safely bringing back hundreds of tourists stranded in Kashmir to Maharashtra. They also acknowledged the efforts made to return the bodies of three residents from Dombivli who were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.
It may be recalled that news of the deaths of three Dombivli residents, including Sanjay Lele—brother-in-law of local Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Kadam—reached their families on Tuesday evening. Kadam quickly informed Shrikant Shinde, who immediately sent his personal assistant, Abhijeet Darekar, from Delhi to Kashmir that same night. Darekar helped the grieving families with formalities, including post-mortems and arrangements to return the bodies.
The victims’ wives were unaware of their husbands’ deaths, and the children were very young.
Deputy CM Eknath Shinde also flew to Kashmir by a special flight and ensured that hundreds of tourists from Maharashtra were safely brought back on four separate flights.
One of the banners, put up by Shiv Sena supporter Ranjit Joshi, read: “Today, when such a big terrorist incident has happened in Kashmir, despite that, our Eknath Shinde sahab went there and he not only gave courage to the tourists from Maharashtra who were stranded there but also brought back hundreds of people. In such a situation, everyone should know this, that is why I put up this banner.”
However, opposition leaders, though not openly critical, have suggested that the move is political propaganda by the Shiv Sena to gain credit from the incident.
Meanwhile, protests against the terror attack continued on Friday. The All India Bullock Cart Association staged a protest in Dombivli with posters saying “Pakistan Murdabad”. In Kalyan, lawyers also held a protest and demanded strict action from the central government against the terrorists.
