NEW DELHI: At least five individuals lost their lives in an explosion at an aluminum foil manufacturing unit in the Umred MIDC of Nagpur district on Friday evening.
According to officials, two victims succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the hospital, while the deaths of three others, who had initially been reported missing, were confirmed on Saturday.
The explosion occurred around 7 pm at MMP Aluminium Industries in Umred MIDC. The deceased workers, all in the age group of 20 to 25 years, were residents of Nagpur district. Five others are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital for their injuries.
"Five people died in an explosion at an Aluminium Foil Factory in Umred, two people died in the hospital during treatment, while the death of 3 missing persons has been confirmed," SP Harsh Poddar stated.
In his statement, Nagpur Rural SP Harsh Poddar explained that the explosion occurred in the polished tubing unit of the factory located in Umred taluka. At the time, 87 people were inside the facility.
"This factory is located in Umred taluka of Nagpur. There was an explosion in the factory's polished tubing unit. The fire has not been completely controlled. The fire department is present at the spot, and fire engines are working to extinguish the fire. A total of 87 people were present inside (during the explosion). Eight people have been reported injured. After the fire is extinguished, an investigation will be conducted inside. It is difficult to go inside where the fire has occurred," Nagpur Rural SP Harsh Poddar stated on Friday night.
