Kanpur: Ahead of the expansion of metro passenger services from Moti Jheel to Kanpur Central, the managing director of Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC), Sushil Kumar, conducted a detailed inspection of all new underground metro stations — Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central, on Wednesday.
He also reviewed the pedestrian route connecting Kanpur Central Railway Station to the metro station. Notably, the Kanpur Central Metro Station is situated near Ghantaghar Chauraha, where expansion work under the Amrit Bharat scheme is currently underway. After consultations with railway officials, the metro station was seamlessly integrated with a designated access point at the railway station. This linkage will provide convenient connectivity for passengers transitioning between train and metro services.
Highlighting the importance of integrated transport, the MD said, "Kanpur Metro will serve as a boon for both intra-city commuters and inter-city travellers. To ensure seamless connectivity, metro stations have been strategically developed near key railway and bus terminals under the multi-modal connectivity concept."
With the expansion of passenger services, major traffic nodes including Kanpur Central Railway Station, Chunniganj Bus Station, Rawatpur Railway and Bus Stations, and Kalyanpur Railway Station will offer enhanced commuter convenience. In the near future, Jhakarkatti Bus Station will also be linked to the metro network, significantly easing travel both within the city and to destinations beyond.
