Indore: The Indore cell of the state cyber police arrested a man on Tuesday involved in online fraud through social media ads.
DSP Narendra Raghuwanshi said they received a complaint about unauthorized transactions totaling Rs 37,440 from an RBL Bank credit card. The entire amount was siphoned off over five separate transactions linked to social media advertisements.
Inspector Dinesh Verma and his team were assigned the task due to the seriousness of the offence. The initial complaint was registered on Dec 7, 2019, after which a case was filed with charges under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 66D of Information Technology Act.
Technical analysis and cooperation from Facebook and other sources helped the police trace the fraudulent transactions to the Facebook ID of Rahul Kumar, a resident of Alwar, Rajasthan. Following procedural requirements, the accused was served a notice under Section 41(a) of the CrPC.
During questioning, he admitted to the crime, and police subsequently seized the SIM card and mobile phone used in the fraudulent activities.
