Guwahati: JEE (Main) northeast topper Pranjal Kumar Singh aspires to join computer science in one of the top-ranked IITs in the country and keep alive his dream of becoming an IAS officer by cracking UPSC. In conversation with TOI, Pranjal expressed that public service should be everyone's highest purpose, and he believes becoming an IAS officer would enable him to achieve this goal effectively.
He received training at a prominent Guwahati coaching institute for five years. Whilst awaiting his Class XII results, his academic excellence is evident from his Class X board examination score of 99.6 per cent. "My immediate goal is to become an engineer, but my ultimate goal is to become an IAS officer because the prime thing that is important in life is to serve the people. For me, IAS is the best career option to serve the people from the top of bureaucracy. It was my father's dream also to see me becoming a govt servant," said Pranjal.
His father is a central govt employee and his mother is a housewife. Since his father served in the northeast for long, Pranjal has been in Guwahati with his mother for better education. Obviously, his focus is to excel in JEE (Advanced) next, which decides the fate of students eyeing a seat in IITs. But Pranjal said that after IIT, his priority will be to prepare for the UPSC exam. "Based on the outcome of the UPSC examination, I will decide on my future. But my focus will be on administrative services," Pranjal added.
Sharing his success mantra in JEE (Main), Pranjal said that appearing in mock tests, communicating with teachers, and time management are key. "The candidates who can handle the time pressure can excel. Time management is something which is the perspective of a student that he or she has created for himself or herself. It cannot be copied from others," he said. Further, he said that clearing the concepts by listening to teachers and going through theories can help a lot in competitive engineering examinations like JEE.
