In a first, DHSK College commemorates Hanumanbax Kanoi's death anniversary

Dibrugarh: In recognition of the extraordinary contributions of the Kanoi family, who have established several prominent educational institutions in Dibrugarh, DHSK College, for the first time in its history, commemorated the death anniversary of Padmashri Hanumanbax Kanoi on Saturday.

The Kanoi family, renowned as pioneers in higher education in Assam, has left an indelible mark on Dibrugarh's academic landscape through their philanthropic contributions. Their educational legacy includes the Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi (DHSK) College (1945), Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi Commerce College (1960), Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls' (MDKG) College (1963), Dibrugarh Hanumanbax Surajmall Kanoi Law College (1965) and Manohari Devi Kanoi Girls' Science College (2016). Despite their monumental role in shaping Dibrugarh's educational landscape, the family has traditionally shunned the limelight, making public tribute a rare and poignant occasion. The event was particularly significant as it brought together Kanoi family members from across the country, including Nandkishore Kanoi, Rajeev Ratan Kanoi, Neeru Kanoi, Dinesh Kanoi, Jyoti Prasad Kanoi, Renu Kanoi, Pratibha Kanoi, Lalita Kanoi, Vikas Kanoi, Sumit Kanoi, Smriti Kanoi, and Pranav Kanoi.

The commemorative event featured a memorial lecture titled, "Higher Education in Assam: Past, Present, and Future", delivered by Prof Alak Kumar Buragohain, academic chairperson of Royal Global University and former vice-chancellor of Dibrugarh University.

Assam cabinet minister and Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan was honoured with the ‘Hanumanbax Kanoi Memorial Award' for his outstanding contributions to the state's development.
