Ahmedabad: A major accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon near Gota Talav, when a driver, allegedly drunk, lost control of his premium SUV and crashed it into a tile showroom, causing significant damage to property. A section of the ‘Tile World' showroom's wall, glass front, beam and wiring were damaged. The driver was identified as Jay Jethvani, a 32-year-old resident of Jagatpur.
People at the spot alleged that he appeared intoxicated and smelled of alcohol. The SUV's bonnet and right front door were damaged in the crash. Before hitting the showroom, the driver had crashed into a parked loading rickshaw, causing it to overturn and damage another vehicle parked nearby.
Showroom owner Vinod Patel was at the counter when he heard a loud crash. He rushed out and saw the SUV rammed into the wall of his showroom.
A crowd gathered quickly, and a team from division traffic police soon arrived at the scene to detain the driver and conducted on-the-spot checks. Police said the driver was not in control of his physical movements and admitted to not having a liquor permit. No contraband was found in the vehicle.
The SUV has been seized and a case registered against Jethvani for driving under the influence and endangering public safety. No injuries were reported, but investigations are ongoing to determine full damages and further legal actions.
