The video of India batter Sarfaraz Khan's victory lap run around the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after scoring his maiden Test hundred has gone viral on social media. He smacked a four off ace New Zealand pacer Tim Southee to complete his 100 off 110 balls. He was included in the playing XI after Shubman Gill ended up with a stiff neck and Virat Kohli had to be promoted to 3. A good chunk of the runs in India's first session came from Sarfaraz's bat and the way he nullified the Kiwi pacers through late cuts was just brilliant. The milestone came in the 57th over of India's second innings on Saturday, October 19. Sarfaraz played a classy backfoot punch through the covers to hit the four. Watch the video of his century celebration here:
This was the second time that an Indian batter scored a duck and a century in the same Test, after Shikhar Dhawan against New Zealand at Eden Park a decade back.Sarfaraz was coming on the back of a match-winning double-hundred for Mumbai and once he ended Day 3 on 70, it was assumed that he would convert it to a big score. He had made his Test debut against England earlier this year. Against England, Sarfaraz scored 200 runs in five innings, including three fifties. Sarfaraz's Exploits Against New ZealandNotably, 40 out of Sarfaraz's first 100 runs came in the arc between point and third man through a melange of late cuts. When the spinners were introduced, Sarfaraz used sweeps and nudges between square leg and fine leg to collect his runs. He made 39 runs in that region.New Zealand skipper Tom Latham struggled to keep a proper field for him as Sarfaraz controlled the proceedings like a puppet master. The landmark moment came through a polished backfoot punch through covers for a four off Southee. Sarfaraz ran around the field and jumped in joy.A moment Sarfaraz Khan will remember forever! ☺️
