A new rom-com has been hailed by critics ahead of its UK release this December.
From writer/director David Freyne (Dating Amber) and starring Miles Teller (Whiplash), Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision, His Three Daughters) and Callum Turner (Masters of the Air), Eternity is an imaginative and bittersweet romantic comedy about one woman's journey to the perfect afterlife, and who she spends it with. John Early, Olga Merediz, and Academy Award® winner Da'Vine Joy Randolph (The Holdovers) also star in the film.
The film's synopsis reads: "In an afterlife where souls have one week to decide where to spend eternity, Joan (Elizabeth Olsen) is faced with the impossible choice between the man she spent her life with (Miles Teller) and her first love (Callum Turner), who died young and has waited decades for her to arrive." Eternity currently has an impressive 86% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
One critic wrote: "Tender, funny, and beautifully bittersweet, this is one of the most unexpectedly moving films of the year."
Another critic said: "'Eternity' gives us a delightful treat in that it allows Miles Teller, Elizabeth Olsen, and Callum Turner - three excellent actors, but none of whom are particularly well known for their comedic chops - the opportunity to be genuinely funny."
A third critic described the film as "one of the biggest surprises of TIFF, and will likely be listed as one of the best films of the year," while a fourth added that Eternity is "funny, clever with an inventive take on the afterlife. Delightful".
"Eternity is hopelessly romantic in the best of ways...elevated by a knockout cast and exquisite world building. It is a surprisingly genuine look at love and loss and the million small things that make life worth living," another critic said in their review.
One critic pointed out that the film is striking all the right notes, stating: "Audiences currently are yearning for feel-good films with lighthearted themes, and Eternity fits that mold. It's witty and has a heartfelt message."
A final critic said: "Quirky enough to please those still craving a sense of originality, but it's such a shining example of the rom-com that audiences who enjoy such may be bearing witness to a new classic of the genre that will play to continued delight for years to come."
Eternity will be released in UK cinemas from December 12.
