Bundee Aki revealed boss Andy Farrell tore a strip off his misfiring Lions in the wake of Friday's 28-24 defeat to Argentina. The tourists flew to Perth on Saturday after copping a rocket from their boss who laid down the law declaring their performance was unacceptable.
Centre Aki, a try scorer at the Aviva Stadium, has worked with Farrell since his Ireland debut in 2017 and knew what was coming from the straight-shooter.
And Farrell left his squad smarting as he tried to pick them up ahead of next Saturday's first game down under against Western Force.
Aki, 35, said: "You know Faz, he gives it to us straight, there's no mucking around or no hiding here, he just tells you how it is.
"We're adults, we're old enough to be able to take it on the chin and move on quickly. There's no point in trying to sulk about it.
"He set out the aim for us to win every single game, to not be able to not come out with the result that we wanted in the first game has just got to be one of those things where we learn quickly.
"There's no better players in Europe than this group here that can learn quickly from things that were played out on the pitch.
"I think you can feel the frustration and deflation of the boys in the changing room. But look, we'll just take whatever the coaches are throwing at us."
Aki was part of a heavyweight centre partnership with Scotland's Sione Tuipulotu but despite the Irishman's score he admitted the pairing did not hit its straps.
He added: "We all know how Sione is as a player, he's bloody class. The frustrating thing for me was I wasn't able to connect well with him.
"He's an unbelievable player and there's no excuse, we've got to get better as a partnership going forward and whoever it is, Garry Ringrose, Huw Jones, Elliot Daly, as a unit we've got to make sure we gel together and try get that cohesiveness fairly quick because we need to be better."
