Anyone growing in their gardens will know that they tend to wither, and according to one gardening pro, this could be due to how they're watered. Taking to TikTok, one fan who posts under the handle BotanicKing, revealed one natural item that will ensure your hydrangeas don't wither.
The expert suggested that after watering your hydrangeas with tap water, they will likely wither after just two months. This is because tap water is slightly alkaline, while hydrangeas prefer water with a higher acidity level. BotanicKing explained: "Hydrangea is a typical plant that prefers acidic conditions and requires regular acid supplementation."
He continued: "Tap water is slightly alkaline, and watering the plant with it for a long time will lead to yellow leaves, leaf drop, and no flowering."
To counter this, he suggested using iron sulphate in the water, explaining: "The correct method is to give [the plant] one spoon of iron sulphate diluted with water every seven days.
"Water it into the potting soil. Maintaining the slightly acidic condition of the soil will ensure that the hydrangea grows well."
This method can also be used on other acid-loving plants, including camellias, osmanthus, bougainvillaeas, jasmine, and roses.
Fans were quick to comment on the video to share their tips on increasing the acid content of the soil, with one writing: "You can also add sand to your potting mix to make it more acidic."
While others suggested using lemon juice, coffee grounds, and acidic water from water machines.
