The world of horror cinema has seen many successful franchises over the years, with fans eagerly awaiting the next instalments of their favourite series. Now, the most successful horror sequels have finally been revealed, and they might not be the ones you'd expect.

conducted a comprehensive data analysis of over 350 horror films from more than 70 franchises. The study considered factors such as worldwide gross, return on investment, IMDb ratings, Metacritic scores, and Rotten Tomatoes scores.

According to the findings, Evil Dead 2 (1987), 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016), Terrifier 2 (2022) and Terrifier 3 (2024) are the top-performing horror sequels of all time.

Interestingly, both the second and third instalments of the Terrifier franchise outdid the original 2016 film. Terrifier 3 saw one of the highest increases in its IMDb user rating, with each film scoring higher than the last.

The first film scored 5.6 out of 10, the second received a 6.1, while the latest release currently stands at 6.7.

Evil Dead 2 and 10 Cloverfield Lane also surpassed their predecessors in terms of return on investment, Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes, and IMDb scores.

Terrifier 3 hit the screens on October 11, just in time for the Halloween season.

The plot of the film follows Sienna Shaw (played by Lauren LaVera) as she attempts to rebuild her life, with Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) and his new accomplice Victoria Heyes (Samantha Scaffidi) in hot pursuit.

The initial film received mixed reviews from critics who felt that the plot was lacking and the main characters were underdeveloped.

However, the sequel proved to be a hit at the box office and garnered positive reviews from critics, who noted a significant improvement in the follow-up.

Fans of the series will be thrilled to learn that a fourth film is currently in production, as confirmed by director Damien Leone. However, it is set to be the final instalment, wrapping up the stories of Art the Clown, The Little Pale Girl, Victoria Heyes and Sienna Shaw.
