'ITU-WTSA 2024' Sets Up India as Key Player in Telecom Industry

New Delhi,: India has made significant strides in digital connectivity and gender inclusion through technology, underscoring its role in shaping global telecommunications standards, according to the Indian government. At the close of the International Telecommunications Union-World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (ITU-WTSA 2024) held in New Delhi, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted India’s critical contributions to the future of global telecommunications.

Scindia noted that India’s active involvement led to pioneering new resolutions and updates to existing ones, earning robust support from international participants. “This WTSA-24 gathering has demonstrated that technology, when harnessed for a shared purpose, can serve as a powerful equalizer,” he stated. “The journey ahead may pose challenges, but it holds immense potential to leverage technology as a force for good.”

Scindia reaffirmed India’s commitment to international collaboration, adding that the nation will continue to be a strong advocate for the development of global standards.

ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin praised India’s leadership, invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on ensuring security, dignity, and equity. She emphasized the shared vision of a unified digital future grounded in ethical standards, innovation, and inclusion.

India’s key proposals at WTSA 2024 included a resolution focused on enhancing Digital Public Infrastructure standardization and a new initiative for AI technology standardization in telecommunications and ICT. Additionally, India contributed to revising around 25 existing resolutions, demonstrating its influence on the global telecommunications landscape.

The event marked record-breaking milestones with over 3,700 delegates from more than 160 countries, setting a new high for WTSA participation and establishing India as a prominent player in global telecommunications.
