There should be friendship with America but... what did former VP Hamid Ansari say about India in the Iran-Israel war?

Former Vice President Hamid Ansari on Tuesday termed the recent US and Israeli military action on Iran as an 'illegal aggression'. Israel and Iran have fired hundreds of missiles and drones on each other's cities and military and strategic installations during the conflict that began more than a week ago. Tensions escalated after the US bombed three major nuclear sites in Iran on Sunday morning.

In an interview with 'PTI Video', former diplomat Ansari said that the root cause of the aggression is the Israeli leadership's approach to relations with Iran. He said, 'They are clearly saying without any hesitation that the leadership of the Iranians must change. Therefore, this war was created by Israel.' Ansari also blamed the US for the war.

The former vice president said, "It has been accepted. It was done with the cooperation of America and it was an aggressive war. There is no doubt about it. It was an aggressive war, which should be called illegal under international law."

Ansari said that Iran's leadership is stable and has the support of its people. He emphasized Iran's scientific progress and its right to develop technology, including nuclear capabilities, and said it should not be called a violator of international law for this.

The former vice president said, "No country has said that they (Iran) have violated international law... There are allegations, there are suspicions, but they have not been violated. No one has said that they have made a bomb, but how can we stop them from developing technology...." When asked about the US role in the conflict, Ansari spoke about dealing with President Donald Trump's administration. He said, "Trump is the President of America, so you have to deal with him, you cannot say that you cannot deal with him. He has a special way of working and the world is now slowly starting to understand it." Ansari said that there should be friendship with America, but it does not mean that whatever is said should be done. The former vice president said, "India and Iran have a very old relationship and it is very strong. Therefore, this relationship should not be broken easily.

It is in the interest of us and Iran. Whenever there has been an opportunity, Iran has helped us. Whenever there has been an opportunity, we have helped Iran." He said, "So we have to handle this relationship carefully. We should not spoil it over small things. We have had a traditional policy. For example, in Gaza, the whole world is saying that genocide is happening, but we are silent. Genocide is genocide, whether it is in South Africa or anywhere else." Ansari said that 'temporary decisions' are not good.
