PM Modi: Narendra Modi became the second-longest serving Prime Minister of the country, breaking Indira Gandhi's record

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today surpassed Indira Gandhi to become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India. He surpassed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India as he completed 4078 days in office as Prime Minister on Friday, July 25.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has made many records in his long political journey, has added another new record to his name. On Friday, 25 July, after completing 4078 days of his tenure as Prime Minister, he has surpassed former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and has become the second-longest-serving Prime Minister of India.

Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister born after 1947

Along with this, he has led the government for 24 consecutive years, including the state and the center, which is a record among all Prime Ministers. Narendra Modi is the first Prime Minister born after 1947 and the longest-serving Prime Minister from a non-Hindi-speaking state.

Broke the record of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi

It is worth mentioning here that Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister for 4077 consecutive days from 24 January 1966 to 24 March 1977. Whereas Modi is completing 4078 days of his tenure on 25 July 2025.

This is another milestone in PM Modi's achievement as the longest tenure as the head of a democratically elected government either at the State or at the Centre.

Longest-serving non-Congress Prime Minister

His tenure as Prime Minister also includes some other interesting facts. For example, he is the first and only Prime Minister who was born after India's independence. He is the longest-serving non-Congress Prime Minister.

PM Modi is the only leader among all Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers of India to have won six consecutive elections as the leader of a party. He has won the Gujarat Assembly elections in 2002, 2007 and 2012 followed by the 2014, 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Now only Jawaharlal Nehru is ahead of PM Modi

It is also worth mentioning here that the country's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru is at the top in terms of being the PM for the longest number of consecutive days. He remained in this post from 15 August 1947 to 27 May 1964, i.e. for a total of 6126 days continuously. PM Modi still needs another 2048 days of tenure to equal this record.
