Jasprit Bumrah, one of India’s most experienced and lethal fast bowlers, has often been under the scanner due to frequent injuries. Critics have repeatedly questioned his longevity, predicting his career would be over within months of any comeback. But Bumrah has always let his performance speak louder than the rumors.
Currently playing the first Test against England at Leeds, Bumrah bowled brilliantly in the first innings, claiming a five-wicket haul — his 14th in international cricket. This stellar performance was a strong rebuttal to those who doubted his fitness and form.
Addressing the critics, Bumrah said, “People have said over the years that I will only play for 8 or 10 months. But I have now completed 10 years in international cricket and over a decade in the IPL. Even when I get injured, some say I am finished. Let them say whatever they want. I will play as long as God wants me to. I work hard and leave everything to God.”
He added that headlines and public opinion don’t affect him. “Viewership increases when my name is in the news, but I’m not bothered by it,” Bumrah said. He also praised the conditions at Headingley, noting the good wicket and the helpful swing due to the weather — ideal for Test cricket.
When asked about the team’s poor fielding on the second and third day, where several catches were dropped, Bumrah showed his sportsmanship. “I felt bad, but you can’t just sit and cry. Sometimes the ball is difficult to catch; no one drops it intentionally. We have to move forward. I am just doing my job well.”
In the ongoing Test, India scored 465 runs in their first innings, and England responded with 471. By the end of day three, India was 90 for 2 in the second innings, leading by 96 runs — setting the stage for a thrilling contest ahead.
