A video showing Andhra Pradesh Minister for Roads and Buildings B.C. Janardhan Reddy’s brother slapping a police constable has gone viral, triggering outrage and sharp political reactions. The incident occurred at a temple in Kolimigundla, Nandyal district, and is being seen as a glaring example of political arrogance and misuse of power.
What Happened?According to reports, B.C. Madan Bhupal Reddy, the minister’s brother, attempted to enter a restricted area of the temple where constable Jaswant was posted on duty. When the constable stopped him from entering the prohibited zone, a heated argument broke out. The viral video clearly shows Madan Reddy pushing and then slapping the constable during the altercation.
Political FalloutThe video has become a lightning rod for criticism, with opposition parties accusing the ruling coalition of political high-handedness and police intimidation.
The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) strongly condemned the act, calling it a public display of "arrogance and lawlessness" by leaders of the TDP-led coalition government. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), YSRCP wrote:
Government’s Response“The assault happened in public view, yet no immediate action was taken. This reflects how the police force has become a political tool under this coalition regime.”
Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy has publicly condemned his brother’s actions and stated that no one is above the law. He said he has directed police to take appropriate action, adding:
“Whosoever is guilty—be it my brother or anyone else—should face the consequences.”
Following the outrage, Madan Bhupal Reddy has been arrested by the police.
