UK jetting off to this summer are being warned that they'll need more than just their suitcases and passports. The UK says that tourists will require 'additional documents' when visiting Spain. Post-Brexit, the rules for Brits travelling to countries in the Schengen area have been altered.
Now, those arriving from outside the zone, including the UK, could face additional checks at the border. Besides passports, UK travellers are being advised to carry two extra documents with them on the flight, ready to present at border control. This includes a valid return or onward ticket, such as the return leg of a plane ticket.

Travellers may also be required to provide proof of accommodation, like a hotel booking receipt or an address if they're visiting a second home or friends or family. They can present a paper copy of their booking or an email on their phone.
In addition to these two documents, holidaymakers may also be asked to demonstrate they have sufficient funds for their stay. The Spanish government's website indicates the current minimum amount expected per person per day is €113.40, which equates to around £97.
When you travel to Spain, you might need to prove you have enough money for your trip. You can use cash, cheques or credit cards to verify this.
Not many people have been asked for this proof recently, but it's good to be prepared. The UK Foreign Office suggests tourists might need extra paperwork at the border.
Bosses have warned that holidaymakers may have to show proof of sufficient funds and accommodation when entering certain European countries. A government spokesperson said: "If you enter the Schengen area as a tourist, you may need to provide additional documents at the border.
"As well as a valid return or onward ticket, when travelling to Spain you could be asked to show you have enough money for your stay; proof of accommodation for your stay, for example a hotel booking confirmation, proof of address if visiting your own property (such as second home) [or] an invitation or proof of address if staying with a third party, friends or family.
"A carta de invitation completed by your hosts is one of the options available."
Additionally, passports must meet specific criteria for travel, including being valid for three months beyond the intended departure date from the Schengen area and issued within the last ten years.
These regulations have changed since , making it easy to unintentionally violate them.
The new rules stipulate that passports must have at least three months' validity and have been issued within the past decade upon entering an EU nation.
