An animated series that has won praise from viewers for capturing the "essence of wonder" has just been given a major update ahead of its second season.
Sci-fi show WondLa's first season is available to stream now on Apple TV+ after releasing last year, with a second coming on April 25. The story follows a 16-year-old human teenager called Eva (Jeanine Mason) who is raised by a robot caretaker called Muthr (Teri Hatcher) in an underground bunker.
When her bunker is attacked, Eva is forced to head to the surface of the Earth only to discover something strange. According to the official synopsis: "The planet is inhabited by aliens, covered with otherworldly fauna, and there are no other humans to be found.

"In fact, it’s no longer called Earth — it’s called Orbona. Otto, a lovable giant waterbear with whom Eva shares telepathic powers, Rovender, a cantankerous alien with a troubled past, and Muthr join Eva as she embarks on a quest to find humans, her home and her true destiny."
The show is based on Tony DiTerlizzi's New York Times bestselling book series which includes The Search for WondLa, A Hero for WondLa and The Battle for WondLa.
Fans have now been treated to a brand new trailer teasing what will happen next in the story which picks up from the Season 1 cliff-hanger. Season 2 will be made up of seven half-hour episodes, in which Eva faces a fight for survival and a huge choice about where she really belongs.
Following the release of the first season, viewers heaped praise on WondLa. One fan gushed: "I have to speak up and say something about this phenomenal truly incredible TV show the best I’ve ever seen.
"WondLa is an absolute masterpiece that captures the essence of wonder, adventure, and emotional depth in a way that truly resonates with audiences of all ages."
Another admitted they watched the whole first series "all in one day", adding: "I loved it. I think I showed more interest than my daughters did, because I think some of what is going on story wise is probably too serious or mature themed for kids, especially considering that I’ve seen these same themes in many adult movies. But that doesn’t nearly make it impossible or unenjoyable for a family to watch together."
Meanwhile a third show fan likened the animation to the quality seen in Pixar and DreamWorks animations. "It's like Sky Dance Animation Studio mixed Pixar and DreamWorks animation," they commented. "For me it's definitely [a] watchable show for everyone. I give five stars."
Season 2 of WondLa is available to stream on Apple TV+ from April 25
