Jurgen Klopp to hijack Premier League club's move for highly-rated manager

Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is in high demand, with the 35-year-old reportedly being eyed by and . Rohl has ties to both clubs, having started his coaching career at Leipzig before spending time as Ralph Hasenhuttl's assistant at Southampton.

He has also worked closely with Hansi Flick during his time in charge of and the German national team, before taking his first managerial job with in October 2023. Rohl has impressed during his time at Hillsborough and been linked with a number of other jobs across Europe as a result.

According to the , Southampton have Rohl at the top of their list of potential replacements for Ivan Juric after he was from the .

However, are reporting that Leipzig are also considering a move for Rohl after Marco Rose was sacked last month. Former boss now works as Red Bull's head of global soccer and is playing a key role in their search for Rose's successor.

Thomas Tuchel's former assistant Zsolt Low is currently in charge on an interim basis, but Rohl is said to have 'impressed Leipzig's decision-makers'.

The report states that Klopp, Leipzig's managing director for sport Marcel Schafer and chief Oliver Mintzlaff 'greatly value Rohl's footballing ideas'. However, boss and former Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt are also in the frame.

Rohl was recently quizzed about his Wednesday future and told the : "At the moment it is not the time to speak about my future. The club knows my thoughts, they know where we are, what I want to do in the future. And this is the most important thing."

Rohl was previously linked with a move to Southampton after Russell Martin was sacked in December, but Juric was ultimately appointed as his replacement. "I must say all the rumours and topics around don't influence me," Rohl told in March.

"My main part is here and the next game with my group. We didn't win in the last games and our responsibility is to get us back on track.

"There's no problem for me because I'm not listening to left and right, my focus is here. I know my responsibility for my group and the club, that's what is important at the moment, not some headlines."

Wednesday currently sit 13th in the Championship, having moved eight points off the play-offs after going without a win in their last three games. "It's hard but the key message for me is that this team has big, big character and big, big belief," Rohl admitted after their 1-0 defeat to Hull on Saturday.

"A lot of players take all the setbacks again and again and it makes me very proud. The motivation comes from the inner circle, there's no question mark. The emotional level was there - they want to fight, they want to go and do everything, but you can understand what it means for this group.

"It makes no sense to speak about the play-offs. We should be honest, and we're not ready for the play-offs. We did an outstanding job and felt we were always close, but in the second half of the season in all these tight games, we could have won maybe six home games, but we didn't."
