The narrative unfolds from two different viewpoints as both Laura and Cherry recount the events following their first encounter.

However, she ends up alienating her entire family, leading her to question whether she's overthinking things.

Will there be a season 2 of The Girlfriend?

Prime Video hasn't confirmed whether there will be a second season yet, but the producer has hinted that there could be more to the story.

Producer Jonathan Cavendish spoke to Reach titles at the premiere, revealing his keenness to continue the storyline.

He said: "If people want a second one... episode six has what I'd like to think is a pretty decent cliffhanger.

"So, we originally thought 'No, we'll just make one'. Then, as we were going, we thought this is so good it would be a pity [to end it]."

Should viewers desire additional episodes, they'll need to wait and discover whether the programme gets commissioned for another series.
