"In 2004, we noticed that mum was getting confused at home and in her work. At just 58, she was diagnosed with FTD. She sadly passed away in 2010, aged 64.
"Over the past 10 years, we have also lost her sister, Jean, and her brother, Peter, at a similar age to this terrible disease.
"My grandad, Ronald, also passed away with a form of early-onset dementia, which we suspected was also FTD.
"Dementia has had a devastating impact on our family, and that’s why I’m running to support the vital work of Alzheimer’s Research UK.
"It’s going to be tough, but thinking of mum and those we’ve lost will be all the motivation I need to hobble over that finish line again."
He proposed to his long-term partner, Katrina Bryan, in 2019, and welcomed his first child two years later, announcing the new arrival on his Instagram page.
Meanwhile, Dom has been shocking viewers with his switch from children's TV to Instagram DIY influencer, with viewers regularly commenting on his videos referencing his time on Dick & Dom in da Bungalow.

"There was also a workshop down there, and I spent most of my childhood in there making things. Dad used to have bits of scrap wood and scrap metal everywhere. Childhood was very, very happy."
Commenting on one of his latest videos where he shows viewers around his house, one user said: "That's not a bungalow?"
Another user added: "So much less work when you lived in a bungalow." A third user said: "Bogies! You are smashing it."
