However, this natural and effective solution from J’Parker’s garden expert, Hannah Rowson, works almost immediately and doesn’t cost a penny. Hannah explains: "You can kill off weeds by .”
Hannah warns gardeners to be mindful of accidentally burning their toes. She adds: "But watch out not to splash your toes, of course. The hot water will shock the plant, killing weeds within a day or two."
This simple trick works miracles for patio and driveway weeds in particular, but isn't entirely for weeds found amongst flower beds and lawns. This is because the temperature of boiling water instantly kills whatever it comes into contact with.
Therefore, Hannah suggests white vinegar as a safe alternative for green-fingered enthusiasts who are a little sceptical of using the boiling water method. Hannah details: "Vinegar is full of acetic acid, which is a natural bacteria killer. It's a great way of killing back any unwanted weeds that aren't surrounded by wanted plants.”
She encourages gardeners to transfer white vinegar into a spray bottle for easy application and douse the roots of the weeds with white vinegar. For those who don’t have white vinegar, lemon juice also achieves the same results.
The intense acid of both these ingredients will cause the weeds to dry up and die. Creating a natural solution with items that you probably already have in your kitchen.
Hannah also explains the difference between some weeds and the best removal approach. She explains: "Like any plant, weeds can be annual or perennial. Annual weeds are easier to get rid of, as they last just one year or season."
Adding: "They might spring up quickly, but they can be removed just as quickly too. Perennial weeds are trickier, as they'll return year after year. They have deeper roots than their annual counterparts and if they're not removed, they'll just come back to mock you."
