If you're wondering what a beauty editor spends their money on when it comes to fragrance, I have one perfume that I'm always happy to pay out for myself to make sure I always have a bottle ready to pop in my handbag: . I don't mean one of the new scents under the 'You' name, I mean the original pink bottled You.
Though I'm lucky enough to be sent a lot of new fragrance launches, this is the one that I always come back to. And throughout my 12-year career, it's probably the only scent I've rebought time and time again, rather than swap to something new that has landed in my post pile.
I’ll be honest – I didn’t expect to become my signature scent. I’ve always been a bit of a fragrance flirt, jumping between florals, vanillas and more heady picks, depending on my mood (or outfit). But after just a couple of spritzes of this cult-favourite perfume, I was hooked. And apparently, so is everyone around me – but don't worry, it won't smell the same on you as it does on them (more on this in a moment).
The bottle is simple but chic – that perfect millennial pink-meets-modern-minimalism style Glossier nails every time. It’s curved to fit perfectly in your hand, and it almost looks like a piece of art on my dressing table. But let’s talk about what really matters: the scent. On first spray, it’s soft, warm and ever so slightly musky – but not in a heavy or powdery way. Think freshly-washed skin with a hint of clean sheets, a whisper of floral and a little something you can’t quite place but want more of. It’s made with ambrette, ambrox and musk, balanced with iris root and pink pepper – but don’t worry if those notes don’t mean much to you. All you need to know is that it smells like you, but sexier.

The magic of Glossier You is that it really does smell different on everyone. On me, it starts off warm and cosy, then settles into this soft, skin-like scent that lingers all day. It doesn’t shout for attention – it’s more of an “oh wow, what is that?!” type of fragrance. And yes, I’ve had strangers stop me in coffee shops to ask what I’m wearing. My boyfriend, without fail, always says I smell nice when I wear this one, and he doesn't often notice when I use other perfumes.
Another thing I love? It layers beautifully. I’ve tried it with sweeter scents for nights out and with fresh, citrusy sprays during the day. And even though it’s technically a perfume, it feels totally wearable for every day – like your favourite white t-shirt, but in scent form. , it’s definitely not a budget buy, but for me, it’s been worth every penny.
It’s the kind of fragrance that makes you feel put together, even when you’re running out the door with wet hair and yesterday’s mascara. Plus, the compliments don’t hurt either.
If you're looking for another perfume recommendation for a smaller budget, the other scent that I always seem to get complimented on – and I sound a little surprised only because this scent isn't even a proper perfume – is , £38. It's been my pre-pilates spritz for a few weeks now and I've been told a few times that I smell lovely when I wear it.
