The government has approved two major multi-tracking projects of Indian Railways. In the first scheme, the third and fourth lines will be built on the Ratlam to Nagda section of Madhya Pradesh. In the second, the fourth line is to be built from Wardha to Balharshah Junction in Maharashtra. Both the schemes will cost a total of Rs 3,399 crore, which will lay a 176 km long railway line.
This decision of the cabinet will reduce logistics costs along with ease in rail traffic. On completion of the scheme, it will help in regional development and additional employment generation as well as environmental balance. The economic development of about 784 villages around the railway line will get a boost.
What will change with the project?
After the cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the target is to complete both the schemes by the financial year 2029-30. The expansion of line capacity will increase the speed, punctuality and operational capacity of trains. The railway network will be strengthened.
The speed and regularity of freight trains will directly benefit the industrial sectors. Four districts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will be directly connected to this line. Coal, cement clinker, fly ash, gypsum, agricultural products, containers and petroleum products will be transported through them.
He said that this decision is important in the direction of realizing multi-modal connectivity under the Center's 'PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan'.
