Hyderabad: There has been a lot of discussion in India recently about daily work hours. Now, the Telangana government has made an important decision on this matter. The state has approved a rule that commercial units (like industries and factories) cannot make employees work more than 10 hours in a day.

To make doing business easier in the state, Telangana’s Labour, Employment, Training, and Factories Department has issued new guidelines. According to these, the maximum working hours per week will be 48 hours.
This change has been made under the Telangana Shops and Establishments Act, 1988. If any employee works more than the set hours, they must be given overtime pay.

Even with overtime, no employee is allowed to work more than 12 hours in a day. Also, if an employee works for 6 hours continuously, they must be given a 30-minute break.
This new rule will be effective from July 8, 2025, and is applicable only to commercial establishments.
