Rohit Sharma was honoured by the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) with a stand named after him at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. The official inauguration took place on Friday, with Rohit's parents, Purnima and Gurunath Sharma being invited on stage to press the ceremonial button to unveil the ‘Rohit Sharma Stand’. Rohit's wife Ritika, who has stood steadfastly by Rohit's side throughout his illustrious career, teared up as the grand stand bearing her husband's name was officially inaugurated.

The MCA had earlier passed a resolution during its Annual General Meeting to name stands after three legendary figures: Rohit Sharma, former India captain Ajit Wadekar, and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar. With this, Rohit joins the elite league of Mumbai cricket greats like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar and Vijay Merchant, who have stands dedicated to them at Wankhede.
Rohit Sharma's illustrious career
The 38-year-old called time on his red-ball career last week, having played 67 Tests, scoring 4301 runs at an average of 40.58, with 10 centuries and 18 fifties.
Having retire from Test and T20I format, Rohit remains at the helm of Indian cricket in ODI format. He led India to back-to-back ICC triumphs i.e T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in early 2025. He also took India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, solidifying his legacy as one of the finest leaders and players in modern cricket.
The naming of the stand at Wankhede serves as a lasting reminder of Rohit Sharma’s immense contributions to Indian cricket and a celebration of a homegrown hero who made it to the very top.
