Mumbai: A 46-year-old jewellery artisan from Nalasopara was allegedly defrauded of 322.150 grams of pure gold, valued at ₹31,57,700, by two individuals, including a jeweller and a courier company owner, in a meticulously planned scam. The incident took place at Shop located in Kalbadevi.
According to the complaint filed by Shrikanth Mitai Paul, a resident of Nalasopara, he was introduced to a jeweller named Avinash Goldi by Dayashankar Sharma, the proprietor of New Bright Air 1 Logistic courier service. Sharma allegedly vouched for Goldi’s integrity and encouraged Paul to dispatch jewellery via Sharma's courier service as per an order placed by Goldi.
On March 8, 2025, Paul sent 714.500 grams of jewellery through VPP (Value Payable Post) via New Bright Air 1 Logistic. As per the agreement, once Goldi received the parcel, Sharma was expected to collect 680 grams of pure gold from him on Paul’s behalf.

Goldi returned only 357.850 grams of gold and refused to deliver the remaining 322.150 grams, valued at over ₹31.57 lakh.
Based on Paul’s complaint, police have booked both Avinash Goldi and Dayashankar Sharma for criminal breach of trust, cheating, and criminal conspiracy. An investigation is underway to trace the accused and recover the missing gold.
