The family of pilot Rajveer Singh Chauhan, a resident of Jaipur, had not yet come to terms with his tragic death in a helicopter crash in Uttarakhand when another wave of grief struck them. Just 13 days after Rajveer’s demise, on the day of his terahvin (13th-day mourning ritual), his mother, Vijay Laxmi Chauhan, also passed away. This heartbreaking incident has left the entire city of Jaipur in mourning.
Rajveer Singh Chauhan, a resident of Shastri Nagar in Jaipur, was killed in a helicopter crash in Uttarakhand on 15th June. Despite rescue efforts, he could not be saved. Upon hearing the news of his death, his family was inconsolable. While they were struggling to gather themselves to perform his final rites, tragedy struck again, on 28th June, Rajveer’s mother, Vijay Laxmi Chauhan, suddenly complained of severe chest pain.
Family members and neighbours immediately rushed her to the hospital, but it was too late. She had already succumbed to a cardiac arrest. Doctors declared her dead upon arrival. Relatives said Vijay Laxmi had been unable to bear the shock of losing her young son. Even before her son’s final rites could be completed, she too breathed her last. With heavy hearts, the family performed her last rites as well.
The helicopter crash near Kedarnath Dham in Gaurikund, Uttarakhand, on 15th June claimed seven lives, including that of pilot Rajveer Singh Chauhan.
Rajveer had an illustrious career, having retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the Indian Army after serving the nation for nearly 14 years. Post-retirement, he continued his service as a pilot, with over 2,000 hours of flying experience.
His wife, Deepika, is also a Lieutenant Colonel. The couple married in 2011, and after 14 years of marriage, they were blessed with twins just four months ago. This double tragedy has left the family shattered, dealing them a blow from which recovery will be immensely difficult.
