Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on Friday strongly criticised Pakistan for launching attacks on multiple Indian cities, including Amritsar, on May 8. He also dismissed Pakistan's claim that India was attacking its own cities as “preposterous and outrageous.”
Speaking at a press briefing, Misri said, “Instead of accepting responsibility for its actions, Pakistan made wild claims that India is attacking its own cities like Amritsar and trying to blame Pakistan.”
He added, “That we would attack our own cities is the kind of fantasy only the Pakistani state can imagine. Maybe they think this way because they have done such things in their own history.”
Misri also responded to Pakistan’s attempt to spread misinformation about a drone attack on the Nankana Sahib Gurdwara. “It is another blatant lie. Pakistan is trying to give a communal twist to the situation, just to create division,” he said.
He condemned what he called Pakistan’s “provocative and escalatory actions,” which he said were clearly aimed at Indian cities, civilian areas, and military establishments.
“Our armed forces responded proportionately, responsibly and adequately,” Misri added. “Pakistan’s official denial of its own attacks is just another example of their dishonesty.”
300–400 Drones Used to Target Indian Sites, Says Indian Army Officer
In the same briefing, Colonel Sofiya Qureshi revealed that Pakistan had used around 300 to 400 drones on the night of May 7 and 8. These drones attempted to infiltrate Indian airspace at 36 locations across the western border.
“Many of these drones were shot down by Indian forces using both kinetic (guns) and non-kinetic (jamming) methods,” she said. “Early investigations suggest the drones were Turkish-made Songar models, used for surveillance and testing our air defence.”
Pakistan also fired heavy weapons along the Line of Control (LoC), aiming to damage military installations, she added.
Pakistan Uses Hamas-Style Missiles in Retaliation
Defence sources told ANI that Pakistan had fired missiles similar to those used by Hamas in Israel, targeting areas in Jammu on Thursday. This came as a reaction to India’s Operation Sindoor, which took place on May 7.
Under Operation Sindoor, Indian forces hit nine terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The action was a direct response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, where 26 people were killed.
India Thwarts Drone and Missile Attacks
Earlier on Thursday, Indian forces had shot down over 50 drones sent from Pakistan in a large counter-drone operation along the LoC and International Border. Defence systems also stopped a major drone and missile attack planned by Pakistan across Northern and Western India.
During this counterstrike, India also neutralised Pakistan’s Air Defence system near Lahore, sources said.
