The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has begun the online counselling process from October 14 for admission to undergraduate (UG), postgraduate (PG), and PhD programmes in Agriculture and allied sciences for the 2025-26 academic session. Eligible candidates can now register and upload documents on the official website, icar.org.in, or through the websites of respective agricultural universities.
Counselling schedule and procedure
The counselling will be conducted in four rounds, followed by a mop-up and final round. Registration, choice filling, fee payment and document uploading can be done from October 14 (2 pm) to October 17 (11.50 pm). ICAR will announce the seat allotment for the first round on October 21, and for the second round on October 27.
Seat distribution and quota details
ICAR will fill 20 per cent of the All India Quota (AIQ) seats in 63 state agricultural universities and 100 per cent of seats in central agricultural universities. These include institutions such as RLBCAU Jhansi, RPCAU Samastipur, NDRI Karnal, and IARI campuses in Jharkhand and Assam. The AIQ quota also extends to four central universities: Banaras Hindu University (15 per cent), Aligarh Muslim University (5 per cent), Visva-Bharati (15 per cent), and Nagaland University (20 per cent).
Seat availability and programme-wise intake
For this admission cycle, a total of 6,002 AIQ seats are available. The BSc (Hons) Agriculture programme has the highest number of seats (3,121), while Sericulture offers the fewest (22). In comparison, last year ICAR counselling began on August 7 to fill 5,842 AIQ seats, following the CUET UG 2024 results announcement on July 28.
Counselling delayed due to technical factors
This year’s counselling process has been delayed by over two months. The National Testing Agency (NTA) declared the CUET UG results on July 4. While ICAR initially planned to open online choice-filling for UG counselling on October 6, the process was postponed due to the pending completion of bank payment gateway integration.
