A shocking incident unfolded in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, on Tuesday when a 48-year-old man allegedly shot his 45-year-old wife dead in front of their minor daughter following a heated domestic argument. The accused, identified as Vikas Sehrawat, is currently absconding, prompting a manhunt by local police.
The crime took place inside the Ajnara Society under Nandgram police station limits. The victim, Ruby Sehrawat, was reportedly killed while trying to defuse the argument, witnessed by their younger daughter, Navya, aged 11. Their elder daughter, Kavya, had already left for school at the time.
What Police Investigation Reveals About Ghaziabad Husband-Wife Shooting Incident
ACP Nandgram, Upasna Pandey, confirmed that police and a forensic team promptly reached the scene after receiving the distress call. Fingerprints were collected from items scattered across the flat, and Ruby’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Initial investigations suggest that Vikas Sehrawat, who was reportedly struggling with alcohol addiction, had been living separately for the past month. On Tuesday morning, he visited the flat to collect his passport and Aadhaar card, which led to a heated argument with Ruby. During the altercation, he allegedly shot her in a fit of rage.
Ruby was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. The younger daughter, Navya, who witnessed the horrific act, is reported to be in a state of shock.
Police Investigate History of Criminal Allegations and Possible Firearm Misuse
Police revealed that the couple had previously been booked under the Gangsters Act by Modinagar police for their alleged involvement in a separate murder case. Authorities are currently verifying details related to that case.
It is not yet clear whether the firearm used in the murder was legally licensed or obtained illegally. An FIR for murder has been registered at Nandgram police station, and police teams are actively tracing the absconding accused.
Authorities have urged neighbours and residents to provide any information regarding Vikas Sehrawat’s whereabouts to assist in his swift arrest.
