The White House on Monday shared on X a list of 2024 murder rates for major world capitals, placing Delhi at 1.49 homicides per 100,000 residents. The U.S. capital, Washington, D.C., topped the chart with a rate of 27.54.
According to the figures, the five capitals with the highest murder rates in 2024 were: Washington, D.C. (27.54), Bogotá (15.1), Mexico City (10.6), Islamabad (9.2) and Lima (7.6).
At the lower end of the list were Ottawa (2.17), Paris (1.64), Havana (1.5), Delhi (1.49), London (1.1) and Madrid (0.96).
The rates are calculated per 100,000 residents and reflect official national crime statistics compiled by the White House.
