Megastar Chiranjeevi is all set to return to theatres with his upcoming film Vishwambhara. The actor recently shared a major update about the film’s release date and teaser. Written and directed by Mallidi Vassishta and produced by UV Creations, this Telugu fantasy action film features Trisha Krishnan, Kunal Kapoor, and Ashika Ranganath in lead roles. Packed with drama, action, and visual effects, Vishwambhara is one of the most anticipated Telugu releases of 2026.
Major updates on Vishwambhara
Taking to X (formerly called Twitter), Chiranjeevi dropped a video and shared that the film is going to hit the theatres worldwide in Summer 2026. He also revealed that the teaser of the much-awaited film is all set to drop today at 6.06 pm.
Vishwambhara, originally referred to as Mega 156, was officially announced on August 22, 2023, coinciding with Chiranjeevi’s birthday. This film marks the actor’s 156th project. A formal launch event, including a traditional muhurat pooja, was held on October 23, 2023, in Hyderabad, attended by the cast, crew, and several renowned personalities from the Telugu film industry. The movie is being produced by UV Creations.
At one point, there were strong rumours that Vishwambhara would be a sequel to Jagadeka Veerudu Athiloka Sundari, the popular 1990 fantasy film also led by Chiranjeevi. However, Vyjayanthi Movies, the studio behind the original film, posted a statement clarifying that they alone hold the rights to create any sequels or related content. Though the statement didn’t name Vishwambhara, it was speculated that the message was indirectly directed at its team.
Later, director Vassishta addressed the speculation, confirming that Vishwambhara is an entirely new story with no connection to the 1990 classic.
More about Vishwambhara
Recently, actress Mouni Roy filmed a special song with Chiranjeevi for Vishwambhara. The movie is a fantasy drama with music composed by M.M. Keeravani. Trisha Krishnan plays the female lead, marking her third collaboration with Chiranjeevi in Telugu cinema.
Director Vassishta, who previously delivered the hit film Bimbisara, was chosen by Chiranjeevi to lead this big project. However, the visual effects didn’t turn out as expected, leading to a complete overhaul. Now, things are back on track, and the teaser is set to be the first big reveal. Stay tuned for more updates!
