Amir Khan's ' Sitaare Zameen Par' has been loved by the audiences and the actor recently announced that the film woill be released on YouTube instead of OTT platforms.
He opted for the pay-per-view model instead of selling it to an OTT platform for streaming. The film will be available for Rs 100 on Amir Khan's YouTube channel.
Sitaare Zameen Par budget
In an interview on The Town with Matthew Belloni podcast, Amir Khan said the initial budget of the film was $11 million (Rs 96 crore), but said that the cost went higher as his partners back out of the project when they realised the actor's YouTube release plans.
He said, "I had to pay a price also because I had a partner with me earlier, and they weren’t very keen on this rash idea of mine."
Khan shared that his partners were not happy with him turning down the money; hence, they preferred buying them out. He added, "And so therefore the film has actually cost me about USD 14 million (Rs 122 crore); let’s say between USD 14 and USD 15 million (Rs 122 Cr to Rs 133 Cr).”
The YouTube deal
When asked about the deal between Amir Khan and the video streaming platform, the actor did not reveal the exact number but suggested that it favoured both the parties. TOI reported that it is not a traditional 50-50 deal.
According to Sacnilk, the worldwide collection of 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is Rs 276 crore as of now.
Directed by RS Prasanna, the film features Aamir, Genelia Deshmukh, along with ten debut artists, Aroush Datta, Gopi Krishna Varma, Samvit Desai, Vedant Sharma, Ayush Bhansali, Ashish Pendse, Rishi Shahani, Rishabh Jain, Naman Mishra, and Simran Mangeshkar.
