A magnitude 7.5 earthquake struck the Drake Passage on Friday morning, reported Reuters citing the United States Geological Survey ( USGS).
Despite the earthquake’s intensity, the US Tsunami Warning System confirmed to the news agency that no tsunami alert has been issued for nearby coastal areas.
Initial reports had described the quake as a magnitude 8 before being revised to 7.5.
So far, there have been no reports of damage or casualties.
