Former Indian cricketer R Ashwinfeels there were no silver linings for India in their defeat in the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia. The hosts claimed a comfortable seven-wicket victory and 29 balls to spare via the DLS method in Perth to take a 1-0 lead.
Ashwin also said that he hopes that Nitish Kumar Reddy will be presented more opportunities to express himself with the ball. Nitish, making his debut in the format, scored 19 off 11 and bowled 2.1 overs for no wicket.
"There were no positive takeaways from this game, maybe Nitish Reddy's batting. I mean, it is what it is. We had a really bad day. I hope Nitish gets to bowl more. I think India have to continue with this seam-bowling attack. It will be tough to judge the bowlers as they had only 131 to defend," stated Ashwin in a video on his YouTube channel.
Ashwin also felt Kuldeep Yadav and Prasidh Krishna could be brought into the XI in the upcoming matches based on the conditions.
"If the conditions are a bit drier, then you can consider bringing in Kuldeep Yadav. I think in this series, it is definitely worth giving Prasidh Krishna a look. If Harshit does not work very well, then you can go to Prasidh," he added.
Indialost nine wickets on their way to 136 in their 26 overs. Their innings was marred by several rain interruptions. Except KL Rahul (38 off 31) and Axar Patel (31 off 38), no other player from the touring outfit could register a substantial score.
As far as bowling is concerned, Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar picked up one wicket apiece, but it was not enough as the Mitchell Marsh-led unit chased down the revised 131-run target in just 21.1 overs.
The second and third ODIs are scheduled on October 23 and October 25 in Adelaide and Sydney, respectively. The 50-over leg will be followed by five T20Is.
