India and Pakistan, after a period of heightened military tension, have agreed to hold talks at the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) level. This comes after a ceasefire was announced on May 10, 2025, signaling an important step toward de-escalation. The ceasefire follows several days of drone and missile strikes between the two nuclear-armed nations, which had escalated tensions to a boiling point.
Ceasefire and DGMO-level TalksForeign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the ceasefire, stating that the DGMO from both sides had agreed to halt all military activities. Pakistan’s DGMO reached out to his Indian counterpart on May 10, initiating discussions that paved the way for the ceasefire announcement. India had earlier warned that any future acts of terrorism by Pakistan would be regarded as an act of war, with corresponding military retaliation.
Despite the announcement, Pakistan violated the ceasefire, and drones were observed in parts of Jammu shortly after the truce. Foreign Secretary Misri confirmed the violation during a late-night press conference, emphasizing that India would firmly respond to any further violations along the Line of Control (LoC) or the International Border.
